From a warm personal welcome to a reluctant departure at the end of your stay, Elkader's historic Jail House Inn will offer you, your family and friends, a unique lodging experience that transcends the ordinary. Hosts Julie Carlisle-Kane and Dr. Tim Kane have transformed the Clayton county Jail, originally built in 1870, into 3 spacious suites that pamper their visitors with luxurious beds and baths while retaining the historic character of this fine old limestone building.
Situated on a 3 acre site overlooking the charming little river valley town of Elkader, the inn offers something for every visitor's taste. Consider spending an evening strolling the river walk and dining on a riverside patio or in an Irish pub or take in the restored theater which features Hollywood's latest offerings 7 days a week. Attend the beautiful historic Opera House featuring professional and local talents year round and allow for leisurely shopping and antiquing at numerous unique businesses. Hiking, biking and canoeing along the Turkey River are also favorite activities.
